Monalisalu — Vietnam

This editorial was photographed across several landscapes of Vietnam — from the quiet streets of Hội An, to the limestone formations of Hạ Long Bay, and the vast white dunes of Bàu Trắng near Mui Ne.

The series features pieces by Monalisalu, designed by Luciana Reolon, a designer and former colleague from my years in dance. Her work carries a sensitivity to movement and gesture — garments that feel both structured and fluid, echoing the body in motion.

Photographed between city streets, boats, water and sand, the images explore how these pieces interact with different environments: the faded textures of Hội An, the stillness of the bay, and the minimal landscape of the desert.

Moving from one place to another, the series becomes a quiet journey through Vietnam — where fashion, landscape and movement meet.

ABOUT the Author

I’m Gregory Batardon
Former dancer
Dance photographer

I was born in Geneva in 1971 and studied visual arts at the Collège de Genève while pursuing intensive dance training at the École de Danse de Genève.

In 2010, I stepped away from the stage to dedicate myself to dance photography.
Today, I work with leading ballet companies, contemporary dance institutions, junior companies, and schools, as well as on personal studio projects. I also photograph dancers for professional portfolios, where I draw on my experience as a dancer to guide them beyond the pose and bring out their best.
