Agafay Desert — Morocco

Just outside Marrakech, the Agafay desert unfolds in soft mineral waves — a landscape of pale stone hills where light moves slowly across the horizon. Far from the dunes of the Sahara, its beauty lies in the quiet texture of the terrain and the silence that settles at the end of the day.

This editorial was photographed there by Maïlys Fortune, with whom I regularly collaborate as part of our wedding photography work. Working together often means sharing ideas and perspectives, and this series reflects that ongoing dialogue.

Featuring models Fai and Rania, the shoot highlights delicate gowns by Liz Martinez, whose designs bring together modern structure and an almost ethereal lightness — a perfect match for the softness of the desert landscape.

ABOUT the Author

I’m Gregory Batardon
Former dancer
Dance photographer

I was born in Geneva in 1971 and studied visual arts at the Collège de Genève while pursuing intensive dance training at the École de Danse de Genève.

In 2010, I stepped away from the stage to dedicate myself to dance photography.
Today, I work with leading ballet companies, contemporary dance institutions, junior companies, and schools, as well as on personal studio projects. I also photograph dancers for professional portfolios, where I draw on my experience as a dancer to guide them beyond the pose and bring out their best.
